Our democracy is founded on a simple principle: one person, one vote. Yet for the nation's largest electoral contest, the only one in which every American voter has a ballot to cast, we use an outdated system that places our power in just 538 individuals: the Electoral College.

The Electoral College is antithetical to a healthy democracy. It has ruled in opposition to the popular vote five times in our nation's history, and twice in the past twenty years.

That's why Free Speech For People supports H.J. Res 7 [ [link removed] ], the constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College and replace it with a national popular vote for President and Vice-President. In our democracy, it is vital that all citizens have an equal say in who occupies the White House.
