Friend,

Before sundown, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and yours a Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays.

I know a lot of folks are celebrating differently this year; many of us are choosing to stay apart when we normally have this time to be together. This is just one change of many that reminds us of the challenging times we're facing. It’s been a tough year in so many ways.

But I want you to know that despite the adversity we're facing, I am incredibly proud of what our movement has accomplished in 2020.

Voting in President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, defending the House majority, and electing for-the-people candidates up and down the ballot — these victories were made possible because of your support.

As I look toward 2021, I am hopeful about everything we will accomplish in the new year. But I understand that Congress still has work left to do in the remaining weeks of December.

For one, Congress needs to pass a bill to keep the federal government open, fully funded, and to avoid a shutdown that will hurt American workers. Congress also needs to support our troops and their families by getting the annual defense bill across the finish line. And people in our country deserve a COVID-19 relief bill that gives them the help they need.

I'm hopeful that we will see progress on these important issues in the coming weeks, and I'll keep you updated as things move forward. No matter where the road takes us, please know I feel truly blessed and humbled to have you standing with me.

Happy Hanukkah

From my family to yours, wishing you peace, joy, and light this holiday season. Happy Hanukkah to all who are celebrating. Remember to take care of yourselves — and one another!

It's an honor to represent you,

Derek
