Hi there,
The Supreme Court recently heard arguments on Trump’s last-minute efforts “to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the calculations used to allocate seats in the House,” according to The New York Times.
“If the court rules for the administration, it would upend the agreement that the census must count all residents, whatever their immigration status,” the Times reports, “and could shift political power from Democratic states to Republican ones.”
This is just one act in a string of anti-immigrant policies Trump is trying to fit in before he’s kicked out of office on January 20. Just last month, the Trump administration unveiled a new and difficult U.S. citizenship test, which Doug Rand, former immigration policy adviser to Obama, called “an obvious attempt to throw one more obstacle in front of immigrants legally eligible for US citizenship.”
We believe immigrants deserve to be counted in the census and represented in the federal government accordingly -- but we need to know where you stand. Please, tell us now:
Should undocumented immigrants be counted in the census?
