Help us support Sunrise leaders from poor and working class backgrounds.
Hi John,
Let’s get acquainted before I make this ask—my name is Mark, and I’m the Movement Finance Manager with Sunrise. It’s my job to support our volunteers and hubs across the country with the resources they need to win us a Green New Deal.
Just like you at one point, I wasn’t always a climate activist. The turning point for me was when I was living in Yosemite, CA, literally watching my home burn to ash from the California wildfires. That’s when I started to volunteer with the Sunrise Movement—I found collective power and support among other young organizers like me. I know I’m not the only one who has found hope in the people of this movement.
That’s why I’m asking for your help today, John. There’s a ton of volunteers who are incredibly dedicated to this cause but, naturally, many can’t give as much time as they’d like because of financial constraints.
This is exactly why we’ve launched the Sunrise Volunteer Support Fund—to stipend youth organizers from poor and working class backgrounds to become leaders in the movement. Having worked with these leaders for the past few months, the impact this fund has is game-changing—it is enabling them to fight for change we need in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and economic uncertainty.
The Volunteer Support Fund is only a pilot right now. I hope more volunteers can take advantage of this fund well into 2021, but that’s only possible if we have the resources. Right now, the program needs $60,000/month in 2021 to fully expand to meet our movement's needs.
Thanks for investing in our volunteers and hub leaders,
Mark, Sunrise Movement Finance Manager
P.S. If you’re a hub member trying to access the Principle 6 Volunteer Support Fund, we’re still accepting applications for the Pilot Program on a rolling basis until 1/15! Learn more here.
