Hello,
I hope this finds you and your loved ones happy and healthy, as we come to the end of a tumultuous and challenging year.
Over the past few months, I've often turned to documentaries as a source of comfort while hunkering down at home. Although this season of POV was curated before we knew what 2020 would hold, the stories of resilience, parenthood, and activism amidst great odds have deep resonance for many this year, including me. Rewatching films like We Are the Radical Monarchs or Softie through the perspective of layered global pandemics has reminded me that documentaries can communicate hope and connect us in ways no other medium can. We need such points of intersection to move forward as a nation and bridge our many divides.
This is why I’m so proud to be a part of American Documentary, the nonprofit behind POV and America ReFramed. The nonfiction stories we present each year inspire, encourage action, and remind us of our common humanity. These films move me, make me laugh (and cry), and remind me of the world outside of quarantine which is waiting for all of us to re-emerge with a renewed sense of purpose.
I hope you’ll consider supporting American Documentary in our enduring and ever-important pursuit of bringing powerful, creative documentaries to everyone. Would you consider making a tax-deductible gift? As we head into 2021, we are grateful for the support of friends like you.
With your help, we can keep meaningful storytelling alive and accessible to all.
