Dear John,
One of the first major political battles under the incoming Biden Administration will be on his commitment to returning to the nuclear deal and diplomacy with Iran. A critical effort is now underway to begin building and consolidating Congressional support for Biden to return to the nuclear agreement and lift sanctions under the accord.
Key Congressional leaders are signaling their support for this effort by circulating a sign-on letter in the House of Representatives supporting President-elect Biden’s commitment to return to the deal. This letter is an important signal, coming amid sanctions and sabotage, that Biden will have support to return to the negotiating table and take us off the war path with Iran.
The goal for us is simple. We need to make sure that this letter gets as much support as possible:

The letter is led by key Congressional leaders who fought for the deal in 2015 like Reps. Jan Schakowsky, David Price and Barbara Lee; as well as all three contenders to lead the House Foreign Affairs Committee — Joaquin Castro, Brad Sherman, and incoming Chairman Gregory Meeks; and a prominent former national security practitioner from a purple district, Rep. Abigail Spanberger.
The letter to Biden includes a strong indictment of Trump’s approach, which brought the U.S. and Iran to the edge of war, and says “We are united in our support for swiftly taking the necessary diplomatic steps to restore constraints on Iran’s nuclear program and return both Iran and the United States to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”
We know that those who have cheered Trump’s disastrous approach will be working overtime to sabotage diplomacy and trap Biden on the path to war. This letter to Biden is a key moment in our campaign to halt a war and return to the diplomatic path.
