Just in time for Hanukkah, we’ve got our own minor miracle to celebrate.

A group of donors has agreed to match all gifts that come in during the holiday.

It might not be an oil-lasting-eight-days-instead-of-one type of miracle, but it’s a $9 becomes $18, $36 becomes $72, $150 becomes $300 type of miracle, which is also pretty good. And with a long way to go to hit our critical $200,000 goal, it could be enough to fuel our work -- if enough supporters are able to chip in.

I’ve written before about one of my favorite things about Hanukkah -- that it was called the “Festival of Lights” long before the first mentions of the miracle of the oil appeared.

That’s because Hanukkah is also about the miracles we make ourselves. The light we’re celebrating isn’t literal. It’s hope. It’s the idea that no matter how bad things get, good can prevail if we keep on fighting.

And that’s what J Street does. We keep up the fight for peace and justice, even in the darkest of times.

We kept up the fight over the past four years, and succeeded in blocking some of the most damaging elements of the Trump-Netanyahu agenda from coming to pass.

And with the defeat of President Trump, our movement is now positioned to help chart a new path forward for US policy toward Israel/Palestine that centers peace, human rights and democracy.
