Engineers just rejected the permit for Pebble Mine! This is a huge step forward,

Last month, The Army Corps of Engineers formally denied a permit for the
proposed Pebble Mine in Alaska, saying the project would violate the Clean Water
Act. They’re right. If Pebble Mine is ever built, Bristol Bay, my home, would be
destroyed.
Bristol Bay is a place of breathtaking beauty -- sweeping mountain views,
pristine waterways, and incredible wildlife. It is home to wolves, bears,
endangered beluga whales, and more wild sockeye salmon than anywhere else on
Earth.
The rejection of this permit is a victory worth celebrating, but our work is not
done. Already, the mining company has submitted a new plan to try to get around
this ruling. So we need to urgently redouble our efforts to stop this project
from being forced through.

Pebble Mine has been lying to all of us for years!
This entire time, the company was secretly planning to make the mine much
bigger, and operate for much longer than what they had revealed -- and they had
no qualms about cozying up to decision-makers, and lying to regulators, to
scientists, to local communities like mine, and to you.
Pebble Mine, if built, will fill the waters with more than 10 billion tons of
toxic waste, and pollute over 5,000 acres of pristine Alaskan habitat. It could
also decimate one of the last remaining healthy wild salmon populations in the
world.
More than 65 percent of Alaskans, and 80 percent of Bristol Bay residents --
including Native people -- stand united in opposing the mine. Now even Trump’s
Army Corps of Engineers agrees. The only ones who stand to benefit are Pebble
Limited Partnership and their affiliates.

iconic places and the people who rely on them.
This is the model of the extractive fossil fuel industry. It’s what they do. At

In this fight to stop Pebble Mine, it’s been members like you who have helped
turn the tide. You put direct pressure on First Quantum Minerals, an erstwhile
funder of Pebble Mine, which soon pulled its support from the project. Members
like you also sent over 80,000 comments to government agencies -- including to
the Army Corps of Engineers, which first delayed, and then denied Pebble Mine’s
permit. You’ve also sent comments to the EPA, which has an opportunity to veto
the project as well.
Our next steps are to make sure that the mining company can’t circumvent this
decision with a new permit process, and to ensure that Trump’s EPA doesn’t
approve the project outright.
Pebble Mine has suffered setback after setback, and it’s thanks to smart
campaigning and people power -- from local communities to Friends of the Earth
members like you taking action. Without you, we couldn’t have made it this far.
Now we have a chance to put the final nail in the coffin of this destructive
project. We have the momentum. We can stop Pebble Mine for good. But as we near
