I was only one of three Jewish kids in the Rhode Island town where I grew up. When I was 9 years old, someone painted a swastika on my grandfather's car while it was parked in my driveway. From that moment, I've understood what "other" feels like. We've spent the last few years fighting against so much toxicity. I know you've been out there, on the ground right there with me — resisting, marching, donating — however you've been able. Now that we can turn the page (thank God, right?!), I've been talking with my friends about what we're FOR. And what it seems to boil down to is, "we're FOR improving the lives of all Americans." From the moment I saw that symbol of hate right there in my own driveway as a kid, I've known how important it is to fight for the America I hope to live in: one where we lift each other up — whether we were born here, came here, or were brought here. I'm for an America that supports dreams and dismantles systemic racism. But it's more than that. We are for tackling basic issues like access to child-care, paid sick leave, and family and medical leave. And we are for stopping climate change by making it part of our conversations around the economy, infrastructure, and racial justice.
