Dear Supporter,

We’re all united by our love of the countryside, nature and the environment –
but we need politicians to act to make sure it’s there for future generations.
That was the message we heard loud and clear at The Time Is Now – the mass lobby
of MPs for people, nature and the environment.

On 26 June, thousands of people descended on Westminster to tell our MPs why
it's so important to take bold, urgent action on climate change and to restore
our natural environment.

The government has already committed to ending the UK’s contribution to climate
change by 2050 – but we urged them to be more ambitious, and commit to 2045.

CPRE campaigners, volunteers and supporters like you helped make this the
biggest mass lobby on the environment in British history, and made sure MPs
heard the voice of the countryside loud and clear. Read our blog for more info, and to find out what rickshaws had to with it all!

ACT FOR NATURE
[{EXTERNAL_URL~[link removed]}]
[{EXTERNAL_URL~[link removed]}]
Can you imagine a countryside without charismatic wildlife such as red squirrels
or turtle doves, or the insect pollinators that underpin our agriculture? This
could be our future if we don’t act, according to a new report on the threats to
biodiversity across the globe.

By changing the way we farm, protecting our soils, restoring nature and tackling
climate change with nature-based solutions like planting trees, we can reverse
this trend. Find out how we’re working to turn the tide on nature loss.

HOMES PEOPLE CAN AFFORD

[{EXTERNAL_URL~[link removed]}]
Everyone needs a secure, stable and affordable place to live. But right now
there are more than 170,000 families in rural communities who are on social
housing waiting lists, and many more in urban areas.

It’s time to do something about this. We’ve joined housing charities such as
Shelter, Crisis and the National Housing Federation to call on the government to
spend £12.8 billion a year to build more social housing across England for those
that need it most.

We want to see communities in the countryside prosper and flourish, and they
need affordable homes to do so. Read more about our calls for action.

BOTTLE BOOST
[{EXTERNAL_URL~[link removed]}]
[{EXTERNAL_URL~[link removed]}]
£2 billion - that's how much a deposit return system that collects every drinks
bottle, can and carton, irrespective of size, could boost the economy.

When you add this to its potential to cut litter, increase recycling and raise
money for local charities, we have a straightforward solution that everyone can
get behind.

Over 20,000 of you backed our vision for a world-leading deposit return system
and we’re keeping the pressure on the government to introduce one. Read more about the benefits of a deposit return system

Thank you for supporting our work and helping to make the countryside even
better.

Best wishes,

Calum McGregor
