We all know what it’s like to feel lonely, and that feeling of being left out, different and othered is especially painful when we are young. Join our #HomeNotAlone campaign to let young people know we are there for them.

Many LGBTQI2S youth are struggling while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, often facing quarantine with homophobic or transphobic family members. Although surrounded by people, LGBTQI2S youth can feel very isolated at home.

Youth in our community are already at a higher risk for anxiety, depression and suicide. The pandemic stress, unaffirming family, bullying from peers, managing the changes in virtual or in-person learning, facing homelessness and hunger…it’s enough to make any young person feel lost and profoundly alone.

Even one affirming adult - one supportive figure in a young person’s life - can give them the hope, security and foundation they need to hang on. What can you do to help?

As part of the Egale community, you know the impact of our work. Egale’s Queerantine 101 resources give youth tools and tips to deal with challenging home dynamics. Our Day Treatment Classroom provides high school education to LGBTQI2S youth with embedded daily counselling. Ongoing work in schools, with Gender Sexuality Alliances (GSAs), educators, teachers and parents tries to build safe spaces for LGBTQI2S youth and gives adults the info and tools they need to be better allies to the queer youth in their lives.

A gift today will help us continue this mental health and inclusion-based work for LGBTQI2S youth.

Be a #HomeNotAlone Ambassador. Log into your social media, upload a video, artwork, poetry, jokes, songs or a message of hope that we can share with LGBTQI2S youth. Let them know that they are not alone, that they are a valued part of the LGBTQI2S community, and that there are people out there who care.

Thank you for being part of the Egale family.
