McConnell walks back opposition to election security.

John,

Huge news!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell just walked back his staunch opposition to election security legislation and expressed support for providing more funding to states to safeguard their elections!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Mitch McConnell can be beat on reform issues with bipartisan pressure. Issue One, and our allies across the political spectrum, have worked tirelessly to make protecting America’s elections a top priority and spur Congress to act. This is a big victory for our political system and is a step in the right direction.

But this is just the start. Much more needs to be done to stop foreign actors from interfering in our elections. States need more money. The country needs tough laws.

We worked hard to move Mitch. With your support, Issue One can continue our important fight to protect our elections from foreign attacks.

Our strategy is working. We launched the “Don’t Mess With US” project to bring our bipartisan “secret sauce” to the fight to protect our elections against foreign interference and dark money.

Over the past several months, we’ve held meetings with Republican and Democratic lawmakers to help advance and coordinate support for legislation that would limit the ability of foreign actors to interfere in our elections. We’ve placed opinion pieces in target news outlets to deliver our message to influential audiences. We’ve produced hard-hitting reports about the loopholes in our political system that foreign actors abuse in order to affect the outcome of our elections. We’ve taken our message to states like Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

And, right on the heels of McConnell seeing the light, Issue One helped add Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) as co-sponsors of the Honest Ads Act – bringing the total number of Democratic and Republican sponsors to 39. Issue One assisted in crafting the bill, and it's the best first step to stop paid, foreign disinformation campaigns online.

We’re getting results, and we need your help to keep going. Donate to Issue One today and help us push Congress to protect Americans’ votes.

Thank you for your support,
