When you allow wealthy men backed by corporate interests to dominate the most powerful legislative body in the country, you see working families suffer.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is forcing Democrats to compromise on a stimulus package that will block funds for state and local governments, allow the evictions moratorium to expire, and cut funding from low-income food assistance programs for children and working Americans in the middle of an economic crisis that has decimated our country.
What did McConnell make sure to include in his precious little plan? A “three-martini-lunch deduction” that will provide tax deductions for wealthy executives and lobbyists -- who’ve only gotten richer during the pandemic -- whenever they ‘conduct business’ while eating out.
The GOP’s twisted priorities have made one thing clear: We need women in government who are willing to work together, find solutions, and end the Republican far-right agenda in Washington. It’s past time we have leaders in power who will fight for families, children, better jobs, gender equity, commonsense firearm safety, health care, and reproductive justice.
The gains we’ve made toward progress won’t matter if McConnell keeps control of the Senate.
