Hi John,

The Left’s attack on our law enforcement this year has been unprecedented. That’s been no different in liberal-run New Mexico where they have proposed a new law that would remove qualified immunity from police. “’Qualified immunity [link removed] ’ is a legal doctrine that can shield government officials, including police, from being held personally liable for actions that violate a person’s constitutional rights.” For example, a person could more easily sue a police officer for something they deem to infringe on their rights like a routine traffic stop.

These kinds of lawsuits are often frivolous and will cost smaller communities immensely. Property taxes would likely increase to pay for uninsured judgments and more. Additionally, police officer numbers will dwindle as these brave men and women seek different professions that legally protect them while they perform their jobs.

Legislators need to reject this proposal and defend both our police and our taxpayers.

Sincerely,

Casey
