John:
Since the election, we’ve been hearing a lot about how important organizing was to the incredible wins we achieved in November, especially in BIPOC communities. But who trains and supports all that organizing? re:power does. Over the next three weeks we’re going to be sharing the stories of our alumni who work day in and day out to make our country a better place.
We will continue to make sure our people have the skills and training they need to win, AND your support is key to our continued success. As you read the stories of our alumni over the coming weeks, I hope you’ll consider investing $50, $100, $250 or more so we can continue to offer critical skills-building programs in 2021 and beyond [[link removed]] .
I’m excited to kick off this series with Erica Sioux Elliott from MOVE Texas [[link removed]] .
When we first met Erica, she was Regional Organizing Manager and she now serves as Data Director. She’s a badass Black and Indigenous woman who is changing the face of power in Texas!
Q: In what ways has re:power’s trainings supported you?
A: I would have never gone for a director level role if it were not for re:power. It would have never occurred to me that I had the right skill set. re:power showed me that I did and that I should apply for that role. The coaching and mentorship I’ve received has been invaluable.
Q: When have you felt most proud of your work?
A: Being able to quantify early voter turnout. Before the re:power training, my organization didn’t have a good way to calculate and represent the data until months after any election. After taking re:power's SQL course, I can easily pull VAN data daily and get my Executive Director info they needed in real time.
Q: What does power look like to you?
A: Power looks like people who have the ability to create equitable opportunity.
We’re so proud to have Erica as a re:power alumni and can’t wait to see what she continues to do. Can you give $50, $100, $250 or more to make sure we can continue to train folks like Erica and support the best and brightest activists, organizers, and leaders? [[link removed]]
We’ll have more amazing stories to share next week! Until then, be safe and well!
In solidarity,
Karundi
