The day we eliminate battery cages just got closer.
Being trapped in a battery cage is a special type of hell. Imagine waking up each day with your feet mangled and twisted in the wire-mesh floor. Your skin raw and red from rubbing against the sides of a cage so small you can’t even stand up straight or stretch your limbs. And there is no escape…
This is “life” for millions of gentle egg-laying hens confined in factory farms around the world. Today, we’re celebrating a groundbreaking win on their behalf.
An intense six-week campaign waged by the Open Wing Alliance—a coalition of 75 animal protection organizations—has persuaded Restaurant Brands International (RBI) to stop sourcing eggs from caged hens worldwide. This commitment covers a staggering 25,000 locations of big-brand restaurants, including Burger King and Popeyes.
The significance of this moment can’t be overstated. RBI is the first restaurant group to commit to a truly global cage-free policy. And yet, only half the battle is won. Like hundreds of other companies that have made public commitments in response to our campaigns, we must now hold RBI to its promise.
In a year when even the small wins have been hard-fought, the momentum we’ve generated on behalf of animals in 2020 is truly inspiring. I know that with you by our side, we can bring this home and speed the day when no hen is forced to suffer a life of misery in a cage.
Thank you for believing in us and fighting with us.
