Team,
It is with great honor that I share with you that I've been nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as his Secretary of Health and Human Services.
I am proud to have this chance to implement the President-elect's vision for a better America through the challenging assignments that are in store.
The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services has never been as vital or as urgent as it is today.
The COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout have thrust families across the nation into crisis.
Too many Americans are sick or have lost loved ones and too many have lost their jobs, and with that, their healthcare and hope.
To build back a prosperous America, we need a healthy America. That will be our job on day one.
I am here today because of my parents -- Manuel and Maria Teresa. They only had their health and hope when they arrived in California. A road construction worker with a sixth-grade education and a clerical worker who arrived in her teens from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
They built a strong partnership that lasted 67 years. And while they never got to experience the inside of a college, they did get to send their four kids there - as well as to the military.
Now, President-elect Biden has offered me a breathtaking opportunity to work with his team to shape our healthcare future -- and fight for working people like my parents.
We know the work ahead will be hard. We must do it together. It will be key to building critical momentum and support for the prevention and treatment of the coronavirus.
Team, as we enter this new chapter, I want to thank you for your support over these many years. As you've stood with me, I hope you know I've always stood with you -- fighting to defend your healthcare, your rights, and your family.
With President-elect Biden leading our charge, our shared fight now continues -- and it's never been more important.
Onward,
Xavier
