Friend,
We have some exciting end-of-year news to share: The deadline for our $1 million gift matching campaign has just been extended to Dec. 31. Thanks to a pledge from a generous group of supporters, donations to the SPLC made before the extended deadline will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $1 million. That means your gift will automatically go twice as far, doubling your impact on our efforts..
Don’t miss this limited-time opportunity to double your impact on our work advancing the human rights of all people, in the South and beyond. Gifts must be made before midnight on Dec. 31 to qualify.
After four years of turmoil, our nation needs urgent, transformative change. That change will not come easy; it never does, as we know from nearly five decades of experience.
Still, we remain optimistic. Even in 2020, one of the darkest years in memory, we did not lose faith. In fact, we stepped up our efforts to carry out our mission both in the Deep South and across the country. Here are some of the accomplishments from 2020 we are most proud of none of which would have been possible without our generous supporters:
- Tracking the removal of Confederate symbols and monuments from public spaces across the country the pace of which accelerated this summer after the spate of tragic killings of Black men and women at the hands of police and vigilantes.
- Publishing a guide (in partnership with American University’s Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab) to help prevent youth from becoming radicalized by extremism online, a timely resource as so many attending school remotely are spending more time on the internet.
- Fighting for equitable access to the ballot and contributing millions of dollars in support of grassroots voting rights organizations across the Deep South, as part of our Vote Your Voice initiative.
- Providing thoughtful, effective anti-racist teaching tools through our Teaching Tolerance program, including new additions to our comprehensive guide Teaching Hard History: American Slavery.
- Holding the criminal justice system and Department of Homeland Security accountable for their blatant disregard for the health and safety of people detained in prisons during the COVID-19 pandemic, through emergency petitions and class action lawsuits.
- Exposing how hateful ideologies gain traction in communities through our new podcast, Sounds Like Hate.
- Suing to stop the Trump administration’s continued attack on our nation’s asylum system, in defense of the rights of all people targeted by this administration’s unjust and cruel immigration policies.
- Taking Betsy DeVos and her Department of Education to task for attempting to funnel CARES Act aid from the public schools for which it was intended to private schools.
As we finally turn the page on this tumultuous year, we feel more ready than ever to get to work. Please consider making your double-matched donation to the SPLC today. With your support, we can make a real difference in our country and especially in the communities we work alongside. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Your friends at the SPLC
