Vaccination programme underway in Nottingham

A message from City Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Sally Longford:

sally longford

It?s incredible news that we now have a vaccine against Covid and that this started to be given to people in Nottingham this week, with the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust selected as one of the nationwide Hospital Hub sites. Over the coming weeks, in addition to hospitals, Vaccination Centres will open across Nottingham at sites with good transport links.

This is hopefully the start of us getting back to normal - but it?s only part of the solution and we still all need to follow the guidance for some time yet.

If you are currently eligible for the vaccination you don?t need to do anything, as you will get a letter from the NHS. This is a phased roll-out of the vaccine and it will take many months for all of the eligible groups to be vaccinated.

If you have any concerns about the safety of vaccines, there is information here.

City Council faces financial challenges ? but not on the verge of bankruptcy

Nottingham Skyline

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has had a non-statutory rapid review of Nottingham City Council?s financial management and governance carried out. The report has not yet been formally published and is currently with the Local Government Secretary for consideration, but some media have run reports based on a leaked copy. Some have described the City Council as on the verge of bankruptcy ? but this is not the case and the rapid review does not use the word ?bankruptcy.? It does highlight that the council needs to make savings in order to resolve our very difficult budget situation and we are currently developing budget proposals in order to meet that challenge.

The review clearly raises serious issues that need to be addressed urgently. We fully accept the findings and remain committed to making the improvements needed to ensure we are the best we possibly can be as a council. The review team said it was impressed with the determination of the council?s leadership to stabilise the current situation and take the necessary decisions to bring about improvement. More here

Carbon neutral advent calendar

Carbon neutral advent calendar

Every morning, the Season?s Greenings advent calendar has brought fresh inspiration for a more creative, affordable and environmentally-friendly festive period. To kick off, Oak Tree Farm offered to replant and look after our trees until next year. Then on 2nd December, Green Hustle taught us how to make our own beautiful decorations from nature. Behind door three we discovered a zero waste catalogue from the University of Nottingham?s Sustainability Society, and door 4 revealed a masterclass on knot-wrapping from Lush Nottingham.

Over the weekend Nottingham Contemporary challenged us to a ?creative walk? and the Pudding Pantry & Wild Social presented a local gift guide. Love to Ride kick-started this week with festive bike decoration, and on the other side of door number eight was Aloesugar demonstrating how to make a natural DIY body scrub. Today you will hear ten top tips for sustainable gift-giving from Shop Zero Nottingham.

Follow our Twitter and Facebook to keep up with CN28?s amazing advent adventure, and to find any of the previous videos you missed.
