This year hasn’t been business as usual. Factories downed tools. Shops closed. Life was put on hold. 

 

But we couldn't press pause on climate change. Heat grew. Tides rose. Species struggled.

 

This year we learned that one million species are at risk of extinction. [1] Antarctica had its hottest day on record. [2] Though there are positive signs we’re turning a corner on coronavirus, we're still in a climate and nature emergency -- and now we're realising just how vulnerable we are to changes in the natural world.

 

We can’t rely on corporations or politicians to fix this. Solving the climate crisis will take all of us working together.

 

That’s why Greenpeace’s team has set a goal to make 2021 our biggest year yet in the fight against climate change. 

 

But we can only do it with your help. This month, hundreds of people have generously pledged to chip in monthly to fund our campaigns next year, so I’m emailing to ask -- can you join them?  If you can afford to right now, please click below to contribute a few pounds a month.

Earlier this year, David Attenborough’s new documentary called climate change our “greatest mistake” -- but he told us there’s still time to fix it. [1]

 

In 2021, there’ll be no time we can waste. That’s why Greenpeace’s team of campaigners are already drawing up detailed plans for next year -- for us to be bigger and bolder than ever before.

 

We’ll aim to build alliances, working with school strikers, community groups and like-minded organisations to increase our influence together. We’ll be making sure that Indigenous Peoples -- who often have essential knowledge of how to prevent biodiversity loss and the worst effects of climate change -- are front and centre of our work.

 

With a crucial United Nations Climate Change conference set to take place in Glasgow next year, the UK government will be under pressure to show international leadership. That’s why we need to start preparing now, so that by the climate summit we are loud and united. Can you chip in a few pounds a month for us to kickstart this work today?

It won’t be easy, but together we can make 2021 a year of unprecedented change.

 

What makes me believe we have the power to win? Because even in 2020, despite unprecedented challenges, we secured victories together. In the past few weeks, we saw the UK government pledge to scale up wind power and to phase out fossil fuel vehicles [3, 4].

 

These campaigns were won because hundreds of thousands of you took action. Together, you signed petitions, wrote to politicians, and raised awareness online -- and thousands more of you generously chipped in.

 

With your support next year, I know we can go even further still.
