Did you know that, thanks to a law passed to give individuals and nonprofit organizations financial relief during the pandemic, you can easily deduct your first $300 in nonprofit donations when you file your tax return even if you take the standard deduction? It’s super simple to get this universal tax deduction—but the year is almost up, and you have to give by Dec. 31 to get the benefits.

As the IRS points out, deducting this donation “lowers both adjusted gross income and taxable income—translating into tax savings” for you!

Sounds like a win-win! You lower your taxes, and Consumer Action uses your generous donation to help those at risk of losing their homes in this terrible crisis obtain the mortgage or rental assistance they need to stay housed; coach others on how to establish an emergency savings fund to cope with the financial threats posed by COVID; and educate a breadwinner who recently lost their job on how to make a life-changing career transition. (Want to learn more about what we’ve been up to? Check out our timely COVID-19 Educational Project.)

Don’t hesitate: Make your $25-$300 end-of-year donation to an organization that’s making a difference right now—Consumer Action.

Sincerely,

Ken McEldowney
