Welcome to Wednesday, December 9th, chaoses and orders...

Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is asking SCOTUS to block four key battleground states from casting "unlawful and constitutionally tainted votes" in the Electoral College.

There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, according to officials in most states and U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr.

The filing argues that the aforementioned states used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to unlawfully change their election rules “through executive fiat or friendly lawsuits, thereby weakening ballot integrity.”

“Any electoral college votes cast by such presidential electors appointed” in those states “cannot be counted."

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday denied a last-minute bid by Trump allies to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania.

Biden Taps California AG for HHS

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has been selected to lead the Dept. of Health and Human Services. If confirmed, Becerra would be the first Latino to lead HHS.

Becerra has served as California attorney general since 2017 and was preceded in that role by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Prior to serving as attorney general, Becerra served 12 terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and eventually became the chair of the House Democratic Caucus.

It’s unclear whether Becerra’s nomination will receive bipartisan support in the Senate, but his partisan background as a former Democratic leader in Congress and relative lack of experience in the healthcare industry may lead to a contentious confirmation process.

It’s currently unclear which party will control the Senate, as a pair of runoffs for the Georgia Senate seats will be held on January 5th to determine whether Republicans will retain their majority or if Democrats will control the floor by virtue of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s tie-breaking vote.

How do you feel about Biden’s nominations?

And, in the End…

Save the drama for your National Llama Day.

Never saw any llamas when you were a kid? That's because the U.S. banned llama imports in the 1930s over disease outbreaks. The ban was lifted in 1984 for the Chilean variety, and they've been providing wool and never-ending chewing since.
