** The Mad Ad Ban Plan
Thursday, 10th December 2020 at 6.00pm UK time
------------------------------------------------------------

The Government has unveiled plans for a total ban on all online advertising of so-called ‘junk food’. It would include family favourites from sausage rolls and fish fingers to mustard and marmite. If implemented, it would cover all social media feeds, all commercial websites, personal business websites, promotional emails and text messages.

This proposal has raised important questions about what impact advertising has on obesity, the burden it could place on smaller restaurants and pubs, and the nature of public health.

Join us for a special edition of our webinar series as we host leading experts on public health policy and advertising.

Our panelists include:

Daniel Pryor, Head of Programmes at the Adam Smith Institute (host)

Christopher Snowdon, the Head of Lifestyle Economics at the IEA. He is the author of Killjoys: A Critique of Paternalism, The Art of Suppression, The Spirit Level Delusion, and Velvet Glove; Iron Fist. His work focuses on pleasure, prohibition and dodgy statistics.

Stephen Woodford, the CEO of Advertising Association, which promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy.
