The Year that Will Live in Infamy
2020—a year that will live in infamy, to coin a famous phrase. There is much to do—and undo—to get our country on track: restoring jobs and public health; rebuilding our infrastructure; meeting the challenge of climate change, and more. We at the Living New Deal are inspired by the wave of interest in the New Deal—a galvanizing vision for these troubled times.

Despite the pandemic, our team accomplished much of what we set out to do in 2020:
  • We added many new features to our website, livingnewdeal.org, which now catalogs more than 16,500 New Deal sites nationwide
  • Provided guidance to institutions and communities struggling to preserve endangered New Deal artworks
  • Launched The Fireside, a monthly email newsletter
  • Joined with the Sunrise Movement and Creative Action Network on “Posters for Social Change,” a gallery exhibition of vintage WPA posters and contemporary posters for a Green New Deal
  • Kicked off a webinar series about the New Deal and its lessons for today
  • And we’re putting the final touches on our Map and Guide to the New Deal in Washington, DC. Look for it in early 2021!
Throughout this difficult year, Americans have come together time and again to demand better from our leaders and ourselves. The public spirit of the New Deal lives on. May a new New Deal bring us together in common cause. Thank you for supporting the Living New Deal.
