The Food and Drug Administration said the first Covid-19 vaccine being considered for U.S. distribution “met the prescribed success criteria” in a clinical study, paving the way for the agency to green-light distribution as early as this weekend, as the WSJ reports. |
UK Launches Mass Vaccination
A 90-year-old grandmother became the world’s first person to receive a fully-tested Covid-19 shot today, as Britain began mass-vaccinating its people in a global drive that poses one of the biggest logistical challenges in peacetime history, as Reuters reports. |
Top Cyber Firm Hacked by Nation-State
One of the world’s leading cybersecurity firms, FireEye, revealed today that its own systems were pierced by what it called “a nation with top-tier offensive capabilities.” And as the New York Times reports, the company said hackers, almost certainly Russian, used “novel techniques” to make off with its own tool kit, which could be useful in mounting new attacks around the world. |

This Town Tomorrow
Tomorrow, at 9:30 a.m., the CSIS Project on Nuclear Issues hosts its 2020 winter conference, which will feature two days of presentations from rising experts on topics such as regional nuclear policy and strategy, arms control and disarmament, proliferation challenges, and deterrence.
Then, at 12:00 p.m., the CSIS Commission on Strengthening America’s Health Security holds a discussion with Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, to break down Sweden’s restrained response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
