BREAKING: Congress is finalizing the details of a new coronavirus aid package, and this is our last chance to send urgent stimulus checks to women and families before the holidays.
Did you see this news, John?
It’s been nine months since Congress passed any relief package for the women and working families who have lost their jobs, child care, and are struggling to keep food on the table this holiday season.
But now, thanks to all of our pressure, Congress is working on a new bill that could include another round of crucial stimulus checks. This week is a make-or-break moment for the bill, which must pass before December 11.
Congress has wasted too much time playing political games. We are experiencing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and women, especially women of color, account for most job losses.1
Without support, there will be more empty stockings and hungry children this year. Feeding America estimates those facing hunger will swell to 1 in 6 people by this year’s end – with 1 in 4 children being food insecure.
These $1,200 checks are necessary to provide immediate support to women and families who need it – not billionaires and corporations. That’s why any relief bill must include direct payments for working people. Period.
With determination,
Women’s March Team
