Paper Forecasting BSN Numbers Earns Nursing Outlook Award
In 2018, Joanne Spetz, PhD, projected the number of nurses who would get bachelor of science in nursing degrees, and included in her paper recommendations for how to increase the rate. Now Nursing Outlook has recognized the Campaign advisor's “significant contributions” with its 2020 Excellence in Nursing Education Award. Her work was based on the Future of Nursing report education goals.

Nurse Among Public Health Experts on COVID-19 Task Force
A nurse from Washington state will be among public health experts advising the nation’s response to COVID-19: Jane Hopkins, RNMH,a member of the state’s COVID task force and who specializes in mental health, has been named to the national Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board. The team will help “prepare to implement a robust and aggressive response.”

Pushed to the Brink”: Campaign Nurse Talks to NPR
NPR’s “All Things Considered” featured Danielle Howa Pendergrass, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, in an interview whose title says it all: “Rural Nurses on What It's Like To Fight Pandemic Within a Smaller Health Care System.” Pendergrass, who has helped fill the gap in women’s health care in rural Utah and is a COACH (Campaign Outreach Advocate for a Culture of Health), talked among other things about fatigue and burnout: “Our nurses are pushed to the very brink.”

Paper Reports How Collective Impact Drives Mentor Program
The Campaign's mentoring program is the focus of a newly published article in Nursing Education Perspectives. The article, “An Innovative Approach to Advancing Academic Success for Underrepresented Nursing Students Using the Collective Impact Model,” describes the initiative that involves more than two dozen historically black colleges and universities, and the design behind it.

The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Steering Committee supports the Campaign in the important effort to help prepare nursing to care for an increasingly diverse population. Now the committee has updated its mission to reflect a renewed emphasis on seeking structural changes toward those ends.

Nurses are leaders in hundreds of ways; the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) wants to put some of those ways into words. NOBC has a short survey asking nurses who contribute as board members to explain how they are broadening the perspectives of others. Speak up!

Calling all registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs): have you served for at least one year on a board of directors with fiduciary responsibilities? You may be eligible to participate in a study, approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board, to test an instrument aimed at measuring the engagement of nurses on boards. Take the survey and share this message with your RN and APRN colleagues. Deadline: December 31.

Jonas Philanthropies Seeks Applicants for Doctoral Nursing Scholars
Doctoral nursing students pursuing PhD and DNP degrees at accredited schools of nursing are invited to apply to be a Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare scholar for its 2021-2023 cohort. Seventy-five doctoral nurse scholars will be selected to receive $15,000 each. Deadline: February 1.
