Yesterday, George Gascón was sworn in as the new District Attorney of Los
Angeles. Immediately afterwards, George announced a bold series of reforms
he will be enacting right away:

* Ending the use of the death penalty
* Ending cash bail
* Ending sentence enhancements
* Ending the practice of trying children as adults
* Ending the criminalization of homelessness, mental health, and
addiction.

I’ve never seen anything like this before from a District Attorney on his
first day in office. What George is doing is absolutely historic — it’s a
huge leap forward in transforming the most incarcerated city in America.
George is showing us what’s possible when we work together to elect
reform-minded leaders.

called it “the Red Wedding” — referring to that infamous Game of Thrones
Episode.
