The fight for a fair and accurate census count continues, John.
Since Trump's first attacks to undermine the count, I have been at the forefront of protecting the integrity of the census. While the president's attempts to exclude undocumented people blundered, his Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, did succeed in shortening the census deadline — despite warnings that doing so would result in inaccurate data and the potential for political manipulation.
A few weeks ago, several data anomalies and errors in the census were uncovered, more than is to be expected. As Chairwoman of Oversight, I've been conducting investigations into the cause of these discrepancies and to ensure that they are fixed with no misconduct or tampering by the Trump Administration.
However, Wilbur Ross is not cooperating. He's refusing to provide pertinent information and documents that would aid in our census investigation regarding these data errors.
Let me be clear: If Wilbur Ross continues to obstruct Congress' investigation by withholding critical information regarding the census, I will subpoena him.
