Friend – The unchecked use of surveillance technologies by D.C. Police and other District agencies pose significant threats to the civil rights and civil liberties of all D.C. residents. Unchecked government surveillance contributes to an oppressive environment in which privacy rights are routinely violated and all residents are treated as prospective criminals. The ACLU-DC, a member of the Community Oversight of Surveillance – D.C. (COS-DC) Coalition, invites you to a town hall discussion tomorrow, December 9 at 6 p.m. where experts in tech, law, and community impact will discuss the problem of unchecked surveillance and how District residents and leaders can work together to bring transparency and oversight to the D.C. government’s acquisition and use of surveillance technologies.
Following the panel discussion, attendees will be invited to join breakout rooms to learn more about the technology used by D.C. agencies and the legislation proposed by COS-DC. They will also have the opportunity to share and hear stories about how members of the D.C. community have been affected by government surveillance. Moderator:
