The Unz Review Digest - September 20, 2019
Israel and related matters dominated this weeks’s most popular featured articles, with first place by a wide margin being held by Gilad Atzmon’s column suggesting that the bitter ideological divisions demonstrated by that country’s current elections signal its doom. In particular, the enormous hostility between the religious and strongly anti-religious elements, which caused the collapse of the most recent governmental coalition, represents a breach that cannot be healed, with the rapidly-growing ultra Orthodox population set to dominate a country whose economic and political existence they cannot maintain. This sentiment produced a massive outpouring of comments, already reaching 600, totaling 85,000 words.
Second place was held by the Saker’s column on French President Macron’s recent public declaration that the declining West must better recognize the importance of new world powers such as Russia and China, and thereby change the policies of isolation and confrontation that they have increasingly pursued in recent years, provoking over 30,000 words of comments.
In third place, but coming up rapidly was Chanda Chisala’s speculation that an examination of the relative academic performance of different racial groups in the U.S. suggests that Asian superiority is greatest at the younger age, and declines rapidly afterward, partly justifying the Harvard admissions policies that seem to discriminate against such applicants. This controversial thesis quickly provoked over 600 contentious comments, totaling nearly 70,000 words.
Finally, fourth and sixth places were held by three additional articles relating to Israel and its relationship to America. Former CIA Officer Philip Giraldi discussed the long history of Israeli espionage aimed at this country, with the most recent example being the spying on Donald Trump’s White House. Sixth place was held by newcomer Whitney Webb with an article on the history of the rise of Christian Zionist movement. Another of her articles was in seventh place focused on the newly released evidence of Israeli foreknowledge or involvement in the 9/11 attacks, as indicated by new documents released on the five Mossad agent agents caught celebrating in NYC at the time, and provoked over 450 comments, totaling more than 50,000 words.
Finally, in fourth place but coming up very fast was yesterday’s column by Paul Kersey on the brutal attack captured by video of a dozen black men on a single white in Minneapolis. Certainly if the races were reversed, this sort of “hate crime” would be a story of international magnitude, but as such, it was received virtually no attention in the mainstream media, and the local authorities have even denied it had the racial overtones to warrant such a designation.
The lesson to be drawn from the current Israeli political stalemate is that Israel is imploding, breaking into the elements it has never managed to integrate into one. The schism is no longer the more quotidian dichotomy of Ashkenazi vs. Arab Jews (aka Sephardim); this divide is ideological, religious, spiritual, political, ethnic and cultural. Nor...

I don't know whether the supposedly Chinese curse really comes from China, but whether it does or not, we most certainly are cursed with living in some truly interesting times: Iran won the first phase of the “tanker battle” against the AngloZionists, Putin offered to sell Russian hypersonic missiles to Trump (Putin has been trolling...

"I have been doing business in China for decades, and I will tell you that yeah, the Chinese can take a test, but what they can't do is innovate." - Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO, 2015. Discrimination that is based on hate is morally wrong. But not all discrimination is necessarily wrong or immoral. A...

Here we go again! Israel is caught red handed spying against the United States and everyone in Congress is silent, as are nearly all the mainstream media which failed to report the story. And the federal government itself, quick to persecute a Russian woman who tried to join the NRA, concedes that the White House...

Well before Theodore Herzl founded political Zionism and published The Jewish State, Christian Zionists in the United States and England were already seeking to direct and influence the foreign policy of both nations in service to a religious obsession end times prophecy. The largest pro-Israel organization in the United States is not composed of Jews,...

Thursday’s debate on Walt Disney’s ABC channel is shaping up as yet another shameless charade. The pretense is that we are to select who the Democratic presidential candidate will be. But most Americans, as the Irish say, vote with their backsides, belonging to the informal but dominant party of non-voters who choose not to be...

There is a dearth of writing about work, its variety, tedium and grind. This is understandable, since most writers have devoted much of their time to writing and reading, and not painting houses, cleaning toilets, washing dishes, planting crops or performing mind numbingly monotonous tasks on an assembly line, etc. This blind spot or ignorance...

For a couple of decades I covered the military for various publications, as for example the Washington Times and Harper's, and wrote a military column for Universal Press Syndicate. Two years ago, I asked, “Will Russia Leave the West?” The world’s largest territorial country—sprawling from its major European city St. Petersburg to its vast Far Eastern territories and long border with China—Russia cannot, of course, depart the West geographically. But it can do so politically, economically, and strategically. Indeed, where Russia belongs, where it...

Thanks to courageous investigators, many anomalies in the official explanation of the events of 9/11 were posted on the Internet in the following months, providing evidence that this was a false flag operation, and that Osama bin Laden was innocent, as he repeatedly declared in the Afghan and Pakistani press and on Al Jazeera.[1] The...

Israelis held new snap parliamentary elections, as the previous round in April had been inconclusive. Surprise! The new round has been also inconclusive. The voters could not make up their mind and choose between Tweedledum and Tweedledee, two major parties of little substantial difference. The only noticeable distinction is personal: one party, Likud, is lead...

Several weeks ago I drew attention to the plight of the highly-unusual African migrant destination of Portland, Maine on The Third Rail podcast.
