LULAC Mujeres Virtual Summit Empowers Latinas To New Heights
============================================================
Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Uses Technology To
Strive For Positive Change Amid a Pandemic
Washington, DC - The 2020 LULAC Mujeres Virtual Summit held this weekend is
already being acclaimed as an unparalleled success and a template for future
events using new technologies to bridge across vast distances and gather safely
even amid COVID-19.
“We are feeling ecstatic about the record-setting hundreds of Latinas and other
women who responded to our invitation and participated in this historic event,”
says Elsie Valdes-Ramos, LULAC National Vice President for Women, Chair of the
Women's Commission and Chair of the Mujeres LULAC Virtual Summit. “When we
decided to create this event, no one had any idea just how successful it would
be. We are overwhelmed with the results because they demonstrate Latinas are
eager and leading the way during these challenging times. They are extremely
willing to gather, share information, ideas and encouragement that can make us
all even more resilient. Further, we share the same goal of wanting to be
successful for ourselves, our families and our communities,” added Valdes-Ramos.
The online event highlighted timely, relevant topics which included leadership in
times of adversity, accessing capital and building effective professional
networks, tapping into mentors with years of experience in social and civil
rights advocacy plus learning from women who have successfully ascended the
ladder within Corporate America who shared firsthand lessons learned along the
way.
“Latinas are a relentless force within our families and communities as well as
the largest creators of small businesses in America,” says Sindy Benavides, LULAC
National Chief Executive Officer. “Women speak about breaking through the glass
ceiling and in today’s context, Latinas are shattering the COVID-19 curtain and
overcoming the pandemic through the power of determination, innovative thinking
and hard work. Many are homeschooling while working outside the house. I am so
proud of women who are bravely leading the way into a new world of social justice
using all the tools at our disposal. We are the matriarchs of our families and
our communities who recognize that the future is Latina and we are transforming
the U.S. and Puerto Rico through action. Our goal is to continue to highlight our
diverse leadership while acknowledging the sacrifices that Latinas are making
every day as America’s essential workers,” added Benavides.
