Join the December Meeting: (Public) Power to the People!
Thursday, December 10, 7:30 pm
Learn about the Campaign for Public Power — aiming to get public utilities under public control — at 350BK’s monthly meeting Thursday, December 10 at 7:30 pm. Instead of for-profit utility corporations further enriching themselves off climate-destroying fossil fuels, the campaign aims to create a publicly-owned, democratically-run utility with a mandate to provide safe, reliable, affordable, and 100% renewable energy. Learn how this can work and how to get involved. Our featured speakers will be State Senator-Elect Jabari Brisport and NYC-DSA's Daniel Goulden.
Advance registration is required to attend the meeting, which will take place over Zoom.

Calling all kids! Help build a banner for our NY Renews rally
Brooklyn Borough Hall, Sunday, December 17th at 10:30 am
Help 350Brooklyn Families build a banner to support the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA). It's part of a statewide week of "artivism." We're inviting kids of all ages to decorate one letter for the banner, which will read "Make Polluters Pay." Use this link to sign up. We'll send you your assigned letter, plus some info on how to create it. Then, bring your letter to Brooklyn Borough Hall on Sunday morning. Everyone will need to be masked and prepared to respect pandemic protocols. We plan to film the kids adding their letters to the banner and hope to create a cool timelapse.
Stop the Money Pipeline Rally
Saturday, December 19, 10 am-12 noon
Chase Bank branch at Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street in Park Slope
JP Morgan Chase is the world's largest funder of the fossil fuel industry. Since the 2015 adoption of the Paris Agreement, Chase has provided nearly $269 billion to fossil fuel companies to build coal mines, pipelines and fracked gas terminals — 36% more than any other bank.
Let Chase know what you think! Join the Stop the Money Pipeline Campaign rally on Saturday, December 19. Want to help plan future actions? We'll be meeting on Zoom on Wednesday, December 16, at 7:30 pm to plan further action. Please email us at [email protected] for the link.
Compost: Yes! Call and comment!
Again and again, our city's composting programs have faced cuts and extinction. The latest to come under attack are community composting sites run by the nonprofits Big Reuse and Lower East Side Ecology Center. There is still time to save these operations:
Pipeline: No! Send your comments to Cuomo!
While the city tries to cut composting, the fracked gas North Brooklyn Pipeline buildup goes on in predominantly Black and Brown Brooklyn neighborhoods. Next step in the struggle to end it: urge Governor Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation to deny the permits National Grid needs to move forward with this disastrous LNG project in our community. Send a comment today.
350 Brooklyn Families’ Holiday Gift Ideas for Kids
What are some gifts that can foster our kids’ love for the planet while empowering them to act? Where can we find great pre-loved gifts — and keep stuff out of the landfill? How about giving gifts that aren’t “stuff?” 350Brooklyn Families has lots of ideas for festive gifts that kids will love and the earth will, too: books for a variety of ages, second-hand resources, and ideas for “experience” gifts that won’t clutter your apartment. Click here for some super suggestions.
350BK's Climate Action Auction wrap up
Thanks to everyone who rounded up or donated auction items and to everyone who bid in 350Brooklyn’s Climate Action Auction. In our first online auction, we cleared about $3,000, a very solid contribution to our ongoing operating costs. We hope the winning bidders will enjoy the classes, wine, books, hats, paintings and other wonderful auction offerings from our generous donors.
