Authorizing $740 Billion in Military Spending
Today, the House will vote on H.R. 6395: a bill amended by Congress to serve as the bipartisan conference report for the fiscal year 2021 defense authorization package.
Those in favor argue Congress’s foremost constitutional duty is to provide for the nation's defense. While this bipartisan bill is a compromise, it will strengthen the military at a time when global threats are increasing and funding is hard to come by.
Those opposed say the U.S. shouldn’t be spending $740 billion on national defense, an amount significantly outpacing America’s most significant rivals. A smaller military would free up funding for other priorities.
