Dear John,
As you know, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt promised retired Americans freedom from a poverty-ridden old age when he created Social Security in 1935. And Americans' overwhelming reliance on this program's benefits — money that you and millions of other people have paid for and earned during your working life — has underscored the importance of this promise. But deficit reduction measures promoted by Senator Mitch McConnell and others in Washington could result in dangerous cuts to this program and your future benefits. Some lawmakers even insist that reductions to Social Security benefits are necessary …
As someone counting on Social Security, we need you in this fight! Bottom line, we can't always expect our lawmakers to do the right thing.
That's why the National Committee is working to inform the Biden Administration and newly elected and re-elected lawmakers about why benefits are so important to millions of workers and retirees — and that any reductions to beneficiaries' monthly Social Security benefit check would be devastating to their well-being, especially during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Please don't take your benefits for granted!
I'm not exaggerating when I assure you that they must be protected and defended AROUND THE CLOCK. That's our job here at the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. And you — and our million+ members and supporters — are the lifeblood of our grassroots organization. You give us clout in Washington! And right now, with so many priority issues that must be addressed in the immediate weeks ahead, we need to hold our elected officials accountable for any decision that could impact your earned benefits.
So please give today to help bolster our immediate efforts to protect and strengthen Social Security!
