We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
John, Organizing wins. Last week, SEIU members at City View MultiCare Center in Cicero and Infinity Healthcare facilities across Chicagoland went on strike to demand the hazard pay and PPE they deserve while working to protect their patients during a global pandemic. Now, thanks to SEIU-led negotiations, healthcare workers right here are getting the raise, the PPE, protections, and sick leave they deserve. Hundreds of our neighbors and members of our community work and receive care in Infinity facilities — and as COVID-19 infections rise, this fight was critical. These protections are necessary to protect residents, staff, their loved ones, and our communities from this disease — and it’s critical that we not only celebrate this victory but continue the work to guarantee safer, more fair workplaces for every frontline worker. And as we head back to Congress to finalize a COVID relief deal, these are nonnegotiable protections for every American worker. We can’t afford to leave any workers behind this year, John. Let’s make sure the next deal protects frontline workers in Chicagoland and across the country. ¡Sí se puede! Team Chuy |
