CNBC: "Less than half of Americans believe Social Security will be able to pay them a benefit when they retire, according to a recent Quinnipiac poll. This is especially problematic, given that some 57% of retirees say Social Security is a major source of income in their retirement, far outpacing IRAs, 401(k)s and other work-sponsored pension plans."

The fact that so many Americans are terrified of the state of Social Security is completely justified: As CNBC also reports, the Social Security payroll tax hasn't been enough to cover payments since 2010, and as more and more members of the massive baby-boomer generation retire, the problem is only going to get worse.

That's part of the reason why Americans overwhelmingly voted for a Biden-Harris administration. Biden and Harris have a strong commitment to protecting and expanding Social Security, especially now that the pandemic and economic collapse have further jeopardized this vital safety net. But we're not out of the woods yet: If Mitch McConnell remains Senate Majority Leader, then we can kiss the reforms that we so desperately need goodbye.

Thankfully, we have a second chance at taking back the Senate.

Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are running in tight races in Georgia, and both of them have to win on January 5 in order to take back control of the Senate. And while some vocal Trump supporters are claiming they'll boycott the runoffs, we can bet there's a larger, silent conservative voting bloc getting ready to vote and protect Mitch McConell's position.

It's all hands on deck to help Democrats nationwide -- but right now, we're running low on funds. If we don't raise another $3,667 by midnight, we risk falling behind the GOP dark money machines that are still churning.
