John,
Many of us at Fight for the Future are parents of young kids. As YouTube continues to be in the news1 for harming kids, we’ve been wondering whether the family brands we use were fueling their manipulation machine. So, we did a survey and have just released the results.
Check out our scorecard to see which family brands don’t advertise on YouTube.
YouTube is a problem for kids and adults alike. Whether it’s manipulating four year olds with ads that cry if they don’t click, or algorithmically recommending extremist videos to young people, something’s gone terribly wrong.
YouTube shouldn’t be this way. It must end addictive video recommendations, targeted advertising, and privacy-violating data collection—practices that the platform won’t give up without an effort on all fronts that forces them to change their business model.
To raise awareness, and direct our holiday dollars toward wholesome companies, we hope you will check out our scorecard and sign the petition calling for a boycott of YouTube’s manipulation machine.
Stay well,
The Team at Fight
