Friends,

I’m writing you today about Georgia’s Senate runoffs, and why it is so critical that you donate to elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and flip the Senate. (If you’ve already contributed to this effort, thank you. If you’re able, I hope you’ll consider making an additional donation today).

This is a longer email than usual, but bear with me—I want to sketch out exactly what’s at stake, and why your support makes a huge difference in these races.

The Senate majority hangs in the balance. You’ve heard this before, but it bears repeating: If we win both of Georgia’s Senate seats on January 5, Democrats will retake the majority. Under Mitch McConnell and the GOP, the Senate could block every piece of meaningful legislation put forth by the Biden/Harris administration. And after he stonewalled Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court for nearly a year, McConnell could block our Supreme Court nominees as well.

Let’s drill down on the policy implications for a minute: If Democrats retake the Senate majority, legislation that we’ve been working on for years has a real chance of becoming law. The FAMILY Act, which would enact real paid family and medical leave. Bills focusing on government transparency and accountability like the STOCK Act, so that members of congress have to play by the same rules as everyone else. A new Voting Rights Act. Substantive action on global climate change. A forward-thinking and equitable economic recovery package.

I also want you to know that these races are winnable. We turned Georgia blue on the presidential level a MONTH ago! Leaders like Stacey Abrams and grassroots organizers have been laying the groundwork for a blue victory in the state for over a decade. They’ve registered tens of thousands of new voters and invested in capacity-building at a local level. And while there’s been scant polling for the runoff so far, the most recent high-quality poll has both Warnock and Ossoff narrowly in the lead.

Turnout is almost ALWAYS lower in runoff elections, so these races are going to come down to which party can energize and mobilize more voters. We know Trump’s base is fired up—he just hosted a massive MAGA rally in Georgia on Saturday. Our job is to make sure that the grassroots organizers on the ground in Georgia have EVERYTHING they need to recruit and turn out even more voters than the GOP.

The Senate majority is at stake. We can pass meaningful progressive legislation if we win in Georgia. The polls say we can win. The question is: Will Democrats have the resources to get the job done?

That’s where you come in: Please, can you make a donation to elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and flip the Senate today? Any investment you make gets us one step closer to victory (and to finally ending Mitch McConnell’s tenure as majority leader).

With gratitude,
Kirsten
