Fight for Mountain View Vehicle Residents
Please join us on Tuesday, December 6 at 6pm to strategize on how to help Mountain View’s vehicle residents. The Mountain View City Council is planning the enforcement of Measure C, which aims to evict many vehicle residents. Help us to fight against the enforcement of a measure that could leave people homeless during the holidays and in the midst of the pandemic.
New Member Buddies
The Membership Development Committee (MDC) is onboarding new members through one-on-one conversations and developing trainings for socialist skills. If you’re interested in engaging with new members, or would like to help develop trainings, come to the weekly MDC meetings, Mondays at 6pm. Alternatively, if you’re a new member, sign up for a 1-to-1 conversation with another member to get all of your burning questions answered!
Don’t Call the Police
The Justice working group wants to help add local, non-violent resources to the national Don’t Call The Police database by working with various Defund the Police and local groups within SV DSA to get as much geographic coverage as we can. Join us on our #wg-justice Slack channel to learn more and find out how you can contribute.
Domestic Violence PSA
The Socialist Feminist (SocFem) working group is developing a Domestic Violence PSA Video. It is well known that the holidays lead to an uptick in domestic violence cases, and with the current stress of the pandemic it is bound to increase dramatically. We will work on creating a video about safety planning for this holiday season, and how various aspects of COVID will impact it. Come to our weekly Tuesday meetings to get involved!
Worker Co-Op Zine
The Labor working group is developing a worker co-op zine! We’re looking for people with artistic and writing skills to get involved with this project. Additionally, we’re working on power mapping and organizer trainings. To get involved, join the #wg-labor channel on Slack, or come to our working group meeting Sunday, December 13, 4:30-6pm.
Raise Money for Mutual Aid
There are a ton of ways to help out mutual aid and those in the community: spread the word about the free store for clothes and check out the holiday toy drive. We’re also hosting another watercolor social fundraiser Saturday, December 12, from 6-7:30 pm. If you’re interested in volunteering on any of these projects, or you have ideas on what our next project should be, sign up!
San Jose BLM Protest
After George Floyd’s murder, a group of local friends began to meet at SJ City Hall every Saturday to protest police killings. They haven’t missed a week since beginning in June. Though the protest is unaffiliated with any particular organization, join on Saturday, December 12 at 9am and look for the comrade in the DSA shirt to stand in solidarity.
