Hi,When I reached out to you two weeks ago, I had just arrived in the United States to join our #Fight4HER activists at HER Summits across the country. In these Summits--10 altogether, held in key battleground states--Population Connection Action Fund trained over 500 people on how to win the #Fight4HER.
It was truly amazing to see so many people join in to defend reproductive rights. I want to share a few of those motivating moments with you!
In Allentown, Pennsylvania, community members came out to call for congressional support of the Global HER Act, learn about organizing in the digital age, and use art to create social change.
At the HER Summit in Manchester, New Hampshire, Rep. Chris Pappas highlighted the importance of fighting for reproductive rights, here at home and around the globe, and encouraged activists to keep up the #Fight4HER.
We also heard from Rep. David Price and Rep. Alma Adams in Chapel Hill and Charlotte, North Carolina, on how they use their power in Congress to fight to expand global reproductive health and rights.
Activists honed their birddogging skills and learned how to get candidates on the record about their plans to end the Global Gag Rule and the Helms Amendment in Madison, Wisconsin.
In Columbus, Ohio, 100 (yes, 100!) #Fight4HER activists filled the room to discuss the state of reproductive rights, getting out the vote, and community organizing. Five fiery Ohio women legislators talked about the challenge of--and their hope for--defending reproductive freedom in Ohio.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, and Denver, Colorado, we heard from state representatives defending reproductive freedom at home. I spoke to #Fight4HER activists about the real impact of Trump's Global Gag Rule on the patients I served during my time in Kenya.
Activists came together in Tucson, Arizona, hearing remarks from immigration- and reproductive-rights activist Alejandra Pablos about her personal reproductive justice story. In Phoenix, Rep. Ruben Gallego called on us to keep organizing, to keep building our movement, and to keep up the #Fight4HER.
I'm inspired by the volunteers and activists who are fighting every day to expand access to reproductive health care for people around the world. As I return to Kenya to continue my work advocating for those affected by Trump's Global Gag Rule, I encourage us all to continue in the #Fight4HER together.
In solidarity,
Melvine Ouyo
