Republicans are finally starting to realize that Trump’s voter fraud allegations might be doing their cause more harm than good -- some of his supporters are suggesting they’ll sit out of the special elections because of them.

“Making an allegation without having facts to back it up could be detrimental to his long-term legacy,” said Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), implying that “a GOP-controlled Senate will be the guardian of that legacy,” POLITICO notes.

We at Progressive Majority can’t help but point out the poetic justice in this particular backfiring of Trump’s plan. If his supporters sit out the election on the grounds that it’s “rigged,” you won’t hear us complaining. We agree with Senator Rounds in that if our next Senate is controlled by Republicans, they’ll be poised and ready to uphold Trump’s dangerous legacy and block Biden's and Harris’s progress. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to support progressive leaders at every level of government and prepare for the fights ahead.

Trump may have unintentionally helped our cause, but we can’t take the prospect of a Democratic majority for granted. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are running in tight races in Georgia, and both of them have to win on January 5 in order to take back control of the Senate. And while some vocal Trump supporters are claiming they’ll boycott the runoffs, we can bet there’s a larger, silent conservative voting bloc getting ready to vote and protect Mitch McConnell’s position.

It’s all hands on deck to help Democrats nationwide -- but right now, we’re running low on funds. If we don’t raise another $2,738 by midnight, we risk falling behind the GOP dark money machines that are still churning.
