Dear John,
It’s difficult to believe we’re in the home stretch of what has surely been an unprecedented year in so many ways. And we are grateful that the “unprecedented” moniker also applies to the amazing work the Lord continues to do through this ministry!
Thanks be to God, we saw an outpouring of amazing generosity on Giving Tuesday, with more than 3,926 supporters, making it our best Giving Tuesday yet. That support will ensure that all 222,000 children registered by their incarcerated parents will get served with a gift and the Gospel through Angel Tree this Christmas. Thanks to your support, children will know that their incarcerated parent—and their heavenly Father—love them.
It’s not just the kids who are being reminded of the Father’s love for them. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in prison, the Lord has helped us find creative ways to continue to bring His Good News to those in prison. Prison Fellowship Hope Events <[link removed]> bring the hope of Jesus to prison yards across America. During the pandemic, our teams are helping keep hope alive through a variety of creative innovations. We continue to film virtual Hope Events that can be accessed through our Floodlight platform, now available in 45 states. We also continue to host “outside-in” Hope Events that take place just outside the prison fence. Those inside gather in the yard to enjoy musical performances, testimonies, and an altar call, where hundreds continue to dedicate or rededicate their lives to Jesus. We recently hosted our first Spanish-language Hope Event in Florida and will be using footage from that event to create a virtual Hope Event, providing opportunities for Spanish-speaking prisoners to experience the hope of the Gospel across the country.
Amid the celebration of Gospel hope going out to prisoners and their families this season, we are sad to share the news that our beloved board member, Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr <[link removed]>., senior pastor of Hope Christian Church and founder and president of High Impact Leadership Coalition, went to be with the Lord on November 9. He was a faithful servant to his home congregation and Prison Fellowship, and he will be deeply missed. Please join us in praying for all who are mourning this terrible loss. We are grateful that, though the loss of loved ones is real and painful, we know that a great reunion will take place in the Lord, and so we joyfully look forward to being together again.
The Lord’s blessings in the here-and-now and the soon-to-be are always overflowing. And each of you represent a blessing to me and this ministry. Thank you so much for your faithful support <[link removed]> of the work the Lord continues to do through this ministry. We would be honored to lift up any prayer needs <[link removed]> that you or your family have.
Praising Him,
JAMES J. ACKERMAN
