Hi John,

In a historic move, Joe Biden has selected an all-woman team to lead his administration’s communications department.

In defending the administration’s decision, Kamala Harris stated that “our country is facing unprecedented challenges -- from the coronavirus pandemic to the economic crisis, to the climate crisis, and a long-overdue reckoning over racial injustice. To overcome these challenges, we need to communicate clearly, honestly, and transparently with the American people, and this experienced, talented, and barrier-shattering team will help us do that.”

But, even in the year 2020, having women in top positions of leadership is still considered a bold action. As The Washington Post reports, the team “will instantly disrupt how journalists cover the administration at a time when men's views still typically dominate political and government coverage.”

The fact is that despite the gains we’ve made toward equal representation, the political establishment feels threatened by women in power -- and the result is that women will continue to be challenged, objectified, and silenced even at the highest levels of office.

We want to change that. While an all-woman communications team will serve as a refreshing change, it also highlights the need to diversify what we deem as normal and achievable in our political system. And that means elevating more women to positions of power -- to the point where it isn’t ‘groundbreaking’ to see women lead.

John, there’s still so much work to be done. With your help today, we’ll send a resounding message that women’s voices deserve to be heard, that women must be empowered to run for office, and that the notion that the fight for equal representation ended in 2020 is bogus. Please, will you contribute $10, $25, $50, or anything you can now to drive our efforts forward? >> [link removed]

Thank you for believing that women deserve an equal seat at the table.

We’re incredibly excited for the representative government you’re helping us build.
