European Semester | Artificial?Intelligence | EUCO









This week, MEPs will take part in committee meetings focusing on issues such as the military use of AI, the current EU e-privacy rules, the 2021 European Semester, and the role of trade policy in advancing the European Green Deal. On Thursday and Friday, a European Council summit will take place, where leaders are expected to discuss COVID-19, climate change, the fight against terrorism, and EU-US relations.

European Parliament



Today, the Legal Affairs Committee will vote on guidelines for military use of AI, its non-military use in health and justice areas and the impact of AI on democracy and the rule of law. Moreover, the Civil Liberties Committee will vote to amend the current EU e-privacy rules in order to allow voice over IP, messaging and web-based e-mail services to continue detecting content and traffic data in relation to child sexual abuse. Meanwhile, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will debate the 2021 European Semester. The Committee on International Trade will hold a hearing to assess the trade policy measures that help the EU achieve the goals it set in the European Green Deal.?

On Wednesday, the Commission is expected to launch its strategy for sustainable and smart mobility. Furthermore, the Commission will also adopt an EU agenda on counter-terrorism.?

On Thursday and Friday, EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss further coordination on COVID-19, climate change, trade, the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, including online, EU-US relations, the Eastern Mediterranean, EU relations with Turkey and relations with the Southern Neighbourhood. In addition, leaders will also meet for the Euro Summit on Friday, focusing on the banking union and the capital markets union.?
