Hi friend --

[Alt-text for screen readers: A tweet from @realDonaldTrump reads "'Democrats suffered crushing down-ballot loss across America.' @nytimes. This is true. All statehouses won, and in Washington we did great. So I led this great charge, and I'm the only one that lost? No, it doesn't work that way. This was a massive fraud, a RIGGED ELECTION!"]

The loser-in-chief is right. Not about voter fraud, which Twitter is right to flag as bogus, but instead about the down-ballot losses Democrats suffered this election. They were severe.

We still hold the House, albeit by a far narrower margin than before. And we can mobilize to mitigate the effects of the "blood bath that [Democrats] suffered in legislative races in key states around the country," as the New York Times so bluntly put it.

But right now, we're not coming together to do the most with what we have. In fact, as the Times reports, "moderate Democrats are feuding with progressives over whether policies that excite the party's base, such as higher taxes to pay for social programs, policing overhauls and a rapid move away from fossil fuels, are a losing message with swing voters. Progressives have responded that moderate candidates aren't offering voters an affirmative program to improve their lives."

In other words, we're fighting amongst ourselves instead of coming together to govern as one party -- something that, admittedly, the Republican Party was always better than us at (even though we'd never wield power the way they do).

friend, please, help us out. Democrats did lose a lot of power in local and state elections this cycle, even though we won the battle for the White House. Now we need to unify and consolidate the power we have, not watch it fractionate even further.

Will you please give what you can to help progressives REBUILD after our down-ballot losses, to show your support for UNITY on the left in this new post-Trump era, to lead by example -- and to show your fellow Democrats that this is a time for moving forward and leading toward a better future, not letting our defeats and our differences keep us down? >> [link removed]
