After Georgia turned blue this past presidential election, Donald Trump and his team have been continuously making baseless claims that the election was rigged, fighting the results at every turn — even as the state's Republican officials, like Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Governor Brian Kemp have confirmed the election results many times over.
This is all happening as the state gears up for two critical Georgia Senate runoff elections on January 5 that will determine Senate control. And just this Wednesday, Trump's lawyers urged Republicans to withhold their votes from these elections if party leaders do not fight to overturn the November election results in the state.
John, it's clear that the GOP is in disarray. It's more important now than ever to take advantage of their dysfunction and organize as hard as we can.
If we work hard enough, we can beat the GOP (once again!) in these runoff elections. We can send two Georgia Democrats — Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock — to the U.S. Senate, and ensure that we make progress on additional COVID relief, criminal justice reform, climate change, and much more. If we win, we can take back control of the Senate, putting Mitch McConnell out of power.
Momentum is on our side right now, but we need to keep it up now more than ever. The deadline to register voters is tomorrow, and early voting in the state begins on December 14. Election Day — the last day to cast a ballot for these runoff elections — is on January 5. We don't have much time to lose.
