Hi friend,
Good news: Rep. Grace Meng recently helped pass the National Apprenticeship Act in the House. The amendment she added makes the language of apprenticeship programs more accessible for immigrant families.
We are thrilled to hear about the progress Meng and her fellow Democrats are making to advance the status of immigrants in our country -- but we can’t celebrate too much just yet. The act still has to pass in the Senate to become law.
If Democrats don’t take control of the Senate on Jan 5, we can kiss any hope of the National Apprenticeship Act, or any other substantial immigration reform, goodbye. After all, Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans haven’t given us any reason to believe they have immigrants’ best interests at heart. They’ve gutted DACA, enabled the Trump administration to separate children from their parents at the border, and destroyed our asylum program, putting legions of families in harm’s way.
It’s not up for debate -- we cannot afford to let immigration reform stall for any longer. Millions of lives are at stake. We need your support right now to ensure the Biden-Harris administration has the support in Congress they need to get this work done.
