Maybe We Missed It?

What to Know: On a day when climate activists are holding demonstrations, the Competitive Enterprise Institute put out a helpful list of environmental disasters—that never happened. They include the 1970 prediction of a “new Ice Age” by the 21st Century.

The TPPF Take: History is filled with prophets of impending disaster, and climate alarmism is the latest in the long line of speculation about how we will destroy ourselves.

“In the meantime, the inventors and hard-working men and women in the private sector have continued to make humanity more prosperous,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “We need to focus less on prophecies based on environmentalist guesswork that will inevitably be inaccurate and keep fostering the American people’s power to shape our future.”

Keeping Families Whole

What to Know: Bexar County is working to keep at-risk families intact, with fewer removals by Child Protective Services.

The TPPF Take: Even in the best cases, removing a child from his or her home does lasting damage.

“Most children who enter the foster care system will stay there for a little over a year, and less than half will ever return home to their parents,” says TPPF’s Charissa Huntzinger. “Separating children from their families has long-term negative consequences and is a decision that should not be taken lightly. It’s good to see Bexar County addressing this with community-based solutions.”

Uninsured

What to Know: The U.S. Census Bureau says more Americans are uninsured.

The TPPF Take: The data shows that more Americans are uninsured by choice.

“A whopping 55 percent of the uninsured were eligible for Medicaid, ACA Tax Credits, or other public programs — and yet did not to utilize such programs,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “It’s just more evidence the Affordable Care Act has failed—on all fronts.”
