Donald Trump has just 46 days left in office, but before he leaves the White House, he’s attempting to undermine many critical institutions we rely on, including Social Security.

Last year, the Trump administration introduced a proposed rule change that, if implemented, would have resulted in hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities losing their Social Security benefits.

Together, we fought back and submitted more than 130,000 public comments opposing this rule. Your support succeeded in slowing the Trump administration down.

But now, with just weeks remaining before Joe Biden becomes President of the United States, Trump is pushing through this dangerous rule change that threatens the financial security of hundreds of thousands of Social Security recipients.

Join CHN and our national coalition to demand the Biden-Harris administration rescind this rule change on Day 1 and protect those who rely on Social Security the most.

This rule change would require millions of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries to re-prove their eligibility for benefits as often as every six months—far more frequently than is currently the case.

The effects of this rule change would be far-reaching. In the 1980s, the Reagan administration implemented a similar rule change which resulted in taking away the Social Security benefits of hundreds of thousands of Americans with disabilities, two-thirds of whom were reinstated on appeal. The policy was so disastrous that the Reagan administration was forced to reverse it.

There is no justification for this policy. The United States already has some of the strictest eligibility criteria for disability benefits in the world. More than half of all claims are denied.

Pure and simple, these last-minute regulations are designed to kick people off of the benefits they need to survive. But the Biden-Harris administration can stop them on Day 1.
